“The same thing we do every night…”

Woke up thinking of one of my favorite cartoon duos…Pinky & The Brain…these lines in particular…

Pinky: Gee Brain, what do you want to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky…try to take over the world!

I had a short story submitted to a literary magazine before I had even finished my coffee and got dressed. I’d say world domination is back on the schedule.

This is reinforced by the fact that I’m now sitting at the car wash blogging so that when I get home I can put the finishing touches on this post then do some kickboxing and have some literary adventures in my Norton Anthology of English Literature. As I recently expressed in a statement I wrote, one of my favorite aspects of reading is the literary treasure hunt it can turn into, when you let it. For example, you start off reading a Shakespeare sonnet, which might prompt you to read biographical information on the poet (who was he writing those sonnets about, anyways?). You come across the name Aemilia Lanyer…a bold 17th century female poet. So you read some of her poetry, which then has you pondering the Elizabethan Age and Court. Inevitably, you think of the movers & shakers of the time. You discover Sir Walter Raleigh tried his hand at poetry, so you flip to those pages. And so it blissfully continues…for as long as you’re willing to follow the clues.
